AUTHOR VISITS

What better way to share my love of books with young people than to visit and talk with them! Kids are curious, often wanting to know the hows and whys of things. Talking to an author allows kids to ask things like:

  • How did you come up with that idea?

  • How do you get a book published?

  • Why do you have to revise and edit so many times?

And for me, answering those questions is fun and offers me the chance to learn from them by asking questions such as:

  • What kinds of books do you like and why?

  • Do you enjoy writing your own stories?

  • What makes a story funny?

I would love the opportunity to share the story behind my award-winning middle grade novel, Mirabell and the Immortal Pirate Black Sam Bellamy. My author talk and writing workshop can both be customized for grade levels 3-7. See below for the content of each presentation.  Let me share my love of reading and writing with your students!

WHAT TEACHERS AND STUDENTS ARE SAYING

Ms. Ferguson's 4th grade -

"My favorite part was how you told us about self-publishing and how sometimes you will face a lot of rejection but to keep going."

"You did an awesome job, and we love how you shared your personal  experiences and the long journey creating your book."

Ms. Cook's 4th grade -

"I loved hearing about all the pieces that go into writing a book."

"My favorite part was when you showed how many agent rejections you had and how you kept going."

Mrs. Pitkowicz's 5th grade -

"My favorite part was learning about the sport of fencing."
