Children's Author
Take a look inside my path to publication . . .
My debut novel, Mirabell and the Immortal Pirate Black Sam Bellamy, has now been published. Hooray! This has been a long time coming. I began writing my middle grade adventure novel about sixteen years ago, when being an author was just a pipe dream and a hobby while I raised my young family. All the while, I studied the craft of writing, learned about the publishing industry, attended conferences, and built my network of fellow authors and creatives.
Then, a few years ago, I started seeking author representation, which is (usually) a necessary step to getting published. Two years and over fifty (very nice) rejections later, I realized I didn't need to wait for a gatekeeper to give me permission to put my book out there, and I began an intense period of researching independent publishing. Thanks mainly to Joanna Penn (a giant in the self-pub space) and Karen Inglis (successful independent children's author and author of How to Self-Publish and Market a Children's Book), I have the confidence to do this on my own. Well, not completely on my own, as I hired several editors and a cover designer. But you get the idea.

I will update this space from time to time as I have information to share, but if you'd like to follow my journey more directly, you can sign up for my monthly author newsletter where I share up-to-date info about my publishing process.

Thanks for following along! :) ;)
Lots of Research!
My Muse
Technically, this is a figurine of Benjamin Hornigold but the pirate in my novel is Black Sam Bellamy.
Rejection is part of the process. And my rejections climbed to over 50. But that's okay. The door to traditional publishing may have closed, but the window to self-publishing opened big and wide!
Not the Whydah but COOL pic, huh?
My middle grade novel, Mirabell and the Immortal Pirate, Black Sam Bellamy follows the adventures of a 12-year-old girl and her friends on their treasure hunting pirate adventure. ARR!

Stay tuned . . .
